Info for Healthcare Professionals

In the healthcare profession there can be a lot of confusion over the diagnosis and treatment of patients who suffer from Head and Neck Pain. where the obvious signs of cancer, tumors and other definitive forms of clinical disease have been ruled out patients suffering from chronic Head and Neck Pain typically present with a wide range of signs and symptoms. This can include patients with Myofacial Pain Syndrome, Patients with Facial Neuralgia or Headaches, Tinnitus, Migraines, ‘TMJ”, Cranio-Cervial and Cranio-Lumbar Pathophysiology. As healthcare professionals we have all seen patients who have presented with head and neck pain but where a definitive clinical diagnosis and effective treatment has evaded us.

The diagnosis of these patient groups amongst the Dental community at large has for the most part been extremely subjective, making it difficult if not impossible for other healthcare professionals to analytically assess or co-treat the patient in a collaborative fashion – in other words – most other healthcare don’t understand how and what we do and many Dentists don’t know either!

Neuromuscular Dentistry is different – using a zero based medical model we provide an objective, real time computer driven assessment and treatment protocols for patients who we can demonstrate have TMJ Dysfunction. Our methods are evidence based and can be readily shared electronically with our healthcare peers. Often times it might be their bad bite that causes their headaches and chronic neck pain but the secondary postural issues caused by years of muscle spasm cannot be undone until they can also be treated by other healthcare professionals such as their MD, massage therapist, chiropractor or physiotherapist.
